The Butterfly House At Put-in-Bay

The Butterfly House at Put-in-Bay opened n 2004 and since thousands of visitors have experienced up close and personal the exotic butterflies residing in the climate-controlled habitat.

Located in the Perry’s Cave Complex, the Butterfly House is a 4000 square foot aviary where visitors stroll thru lush scenic walkways with soothing scents and music in the background. Adults and children alike will enjoy this close up experience narrated by knowledgeable and friendly staff.

The Butterly House Gift shop located on the premises features Fenton Glass, Belleek Irish China as well as framed butterfly house specimens, jewelry, and natural gifts. There is a large selection of educational but fun gifts and toys for kids in the 5000 square foot gift shop.

This is one of the most popular Put-in-Bay Attractions and is located just a few blocks from the Put-in-Bay Resort & Conference Center and reachable by walking or a short Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Ride

The Butterfly House Gift Shop Particulars

The Butterfly House Gift Shop is 500 square feet of butterfly lover’s paradise! There are all kinds of unique gifts, figurines, and jewelry. The gift shop also has a variety of framed butterfly specimens available for purchase. There is a wide variety of educational gifts and toys to educate kids of all ages. The Butterfly House opened in 2004 and is a 4,000 square foot home to paths of breathtaking landscaping and the home to well over 50 species of butterflies from around the world.

Keep an eye out for the dazzling Mosaic from Central America, the Orchard Swallowtail from Australia, and look extra hard for the Dead Leaf Butterfly from Southwest Asia. The Dead Leaf Butterfly is a beautiful gradient of oranges and blues on the top but amazingly looks just like a dead leaf underneath. It often sits motionless in the trees with its “stem” touching the branches making it almost impossible to spot!

Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center

Located on Catawba Avenue and about a 15 walk from downtown Put In Bay is the Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center. This is a hot spot for kids (and adults at heart)! The Perry’s Cave and Family Fun Center is open daily through the season and offers specials pricing on groups. Tour Packages are also available which allows you to bundle your favorite attractions throughout the Family Fun Center.

Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry is credited with discovering the cave in 1813. Commodore Perry used the limestone cave to provide water to his troops during the Battle Of Lake Erie. The rare underground cave still has an intact roof. Guided tours of Perry’s Cave last around 20 minutes.

Don’t forget, you are also only about a 15-minute walk to the downtown area where most of the bars and restaurants are located!
