The cave was discovered by Commodore Oliver Hazzard Perry during the war of 1812 who was seeking a freshwater source for his troops.
The cave is host to an underground lake that rises and falls with the Lake Erie water levels. The cave maintains a year-round temperature of 52 degrees and offered guided & narrated tours.
