Kayak the Bay At Put-in-Bay

Kayak the Bay and experience a different side of the island. Take a relaxing approach to your Put-in-Bay Island visit by kayaking along the banks of this gorgeous Lake Erie Island as well as Gibraltar island just across the shallow bay. Taking in all the views, you can even stop to take a quick swim in Lake Erie or enjoy a quick nap aboard your kayak ties up to one of many docks.

Kayak the Bay

Kayak the bay rents several different kayaks at affordable prices. Tours, group packages, and lessons on using their equipment are all offered on site. They even have inner tubes if you’d rather just float along the water lazily. Take time to check out their website to see what tours are available. The water levels determine where the kayaks are able to go. They can also put together a special tour four your group if you are able to call and set something up ahead of time.

Kayak the Bay is located right next to the Oak State Park, the smallest park in Ohio. There is a bathroom in the park in case you need to use before you head out on the Lake. They are located at the end of the harbor which is kept free of most of the boat traffic. Storage boxes are provided for your belongings if you need them.

Kayaks that you can sit inside and kayaks that you can sit on top of are available. Dogs are always welcome to ride along as long as there is room. You will more than likely get a little wet when paddling along but things kept inside the boat are kept nice and dry. Feel free to bring a lunch along and have a picnic at the beaches along the East Pointe.

Kayak The Bay Tours

Group tours can always be personalized to suit each individual group and they also offer tours like their most popular, the Gibraltar Island Tour. This is an educational tour and includes a guided walking tour of the island, owned and operated by the Ohio State University. Gibraltar Island is home to Cooke Castle, Commodore Perry’s lookout during the war of 1812 and glacial grooves.

You will also be taken on a paddle around the harbor and Gibraltar Island, with history of the island given to you along the way. Kayak at the Bay donates $10.00 from every tour to a summer scholarship program at Stone Laboratory. The public isn’t always allowed, so when the opportunity is available, you don’t want to miss out!

Another popular tour is the romantic Sunset Tour. A guided, one-hour tour paddling past the limestone cliffs of the West Shore of South Bass Island. Paddle past the “ship on the cliff”. Take in the gorgeous sunset between Rattlesnake and Green Islands, with the return trip taking you through and an amazing array of colors as the sun sets below the horizon.
