Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum

The Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum located downtown Put-in-Bay serves to preserve the rich history of all the Lake Erie Islands. With a history dating back to the early American Indians, the evolution if the Bass Islands in Lake Erie is rich in history and milestone events.

The Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum offers a deep insight into how the Bass Islands evolved into the popular tourist attraction it is today. Visitors will enjoy viewing the historical artifacts many of which have been donated through the years or purchased with funds raised by or donated to The Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum. The islands rich history in winemaking is well represented with many original examples of tools and materials used in early wine production. Guests will enjoy learning about what island life was like before many of the modern conveniences we enjoy today were available.

Located behind the Put-in-Bay Police Station and the Brewery Restaurant, admission to the museum is $5.00 and children under 5 are free. Senior Citizens enjoy a discounted $3.00 entry fee. School or tour groups are welcome with advance reservations.

The Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum is Funded by Donations and Fund Raisers

All funds generated from admission go to support the ongoing operation of the museum. A popular annual auction is one of the museums largest fundraisers. Many island residents donate valuable items which are auctioned at both a bidding and silent auction. This event is generally held each August. The Lake Erie Islands Historical Museum also sponsors several popular events on the island including the North Bass Golf Cart Excursion, Island Wine Festival, and the Put-in-Bay Road Race Reunion.

Another popular part of the museum is the Resale Shop. Items in well-preserved condition are accepted and sold to raise the necessary funds to operate the museum. Not only will you find items tof a historical nature, a wide variety of gently used electronics, housewares. clothing and gadgets are available for purchase.
