Put-in-Bay's Lake Erie Island Browns Backers to hold fundraisers.
PUT-IN-BAY -- The Lake Erie Islands Browns Backers headquarted at Put-in-Bay spend all year raising money for the local community as well as cheering on the Browns.
This year's fundraising starts with Draft Day in April; then the biggest fundraiser, the Lake Erie Islands Browns Backers Rib Burn Off, will be at Put-in-Bay at the Sand Bar; and tailgate parties are planned every Sunday during football season.
The main events are held at various spots on the island.
The club was named 2007 Club of the Year by the Cleveland Browns as well as being club of the month numerous times.
After donating all of the emergency money fund last year to the fire chief on the island, the club voted on replenishing this fund for the future with $1,000. Every year the club donates $500 to the Cleveland Browns Foundation as well as three Put-in-Bay high school scholarship funds, the Gustav Heineman Scholarship Fund, the Ricky Dysert Scholarship Fund and to the Jeff Verhoff Scholarship Fund.
This year the club started its own scholarship for the local high school with $1,000 going to one student for their first year of college, with hopes of being able to offer this scholarship every year.
The club voted to donate $400 to the local ball diamond that is used by the school and community alike. A donation of $350 was given to the Put-in-Bay Arts Council that puts on plays for the community as well as shows popular movies to the residents, since there are no movie theaters on the island and it is tough getting off the island in the winter months. The club also voted to donate $250 to the Back of Wild Foundation that comes to the island twice a year and educates the community and school kids on conservation of wildlife habitats.
Since ITS inception in 2001, the Lake Erie Islands Browns Backers has been dedicated to supporting the local community and the love of the Browns.
