Put-in-Bay Visitation reached 2 million

Every year, two million people annually discover the magic of the Bass Islands of Lake Erie, especially Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island. Transportation to Put-in-Bay usually occurs by the Jet Express from Port Clinton and Sandusky, Ohio
The name of the island comes from a phrase said by Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry in the 1800s during war with the British. When Perry was asked about a captured British fleet, he said “Put them in the bay.”

This two by four mile island boasts the nation’s third largest monument,named after Perry and an affordable, par three, nine-hole golf course plus several unique shops, restaurants and activities for all ages.

Known as the “ Key West of the North", Put-in-Bay offers many attractions with free admission. The Aquatic Center has live fish exhibits plus kids can fish. Bait and tackle provided (Tues through Sat 10a.m. to 5 p.m.).

You can also take historic tours by foot, on a train by http://www.putinbayrentals.com">golf cart or play putt-putt at “The War of 18 Holes.”

If you want to go underground for a while, Put-in-Bay has amazing caves full of new experiences. Perry’s Cave features a narrated tour. The Crystal Cave is home to the world’s largest recorded geode and is located beneath the historic Heineman Winery. Tours are also available.

Museums are plentiful in Put-in-Bay and usually have free admission. You can visit the antique car museum, the butterfly museum, the large Lake Erie Island Historical, and even a chocolate museum/cafe.

If you’re looking for more adventures, you can try parasailing, go-karts, kayaking or “get wet on a jet”. Be sure to get hours, prices and availability.

Put-in-Bay also features one of the oldest yacht clubs on the Great Lakes, home to the Inter-Lake Yachting Association's well established, annual Regatta. Other major annual events include the annual Put-in-Bay 5-Iron Golf Classic.
